THE AAII DENVER CHAPTER PRESENTS
International Investing: Opportunities and Caveats
by Harold Kirschner, CFP
Chair of the Investment Committee, Sharley, Howes & Javer
Tuesday, February 28, 2012
The world economy has changed radically in the past decade-plus, with formerly "emerging" nations growing rapidly and some surpassing long established GDP leaders. In this context, U.S. investors must understand the whole picture -- and should have their portfolios represented not entirely inside our home borders. But information is not as easily acquired (or, sometimes, trusted) on non-US economies and companies. What are we as investors to do? Should we buy individual stocks/bonds? Through ADRs? Would mutual funds or ETFs be better choices? How can one gain broad exposure while avoiding pitfalls such as the current turmoil in Europe? Or does that problem offer bargain opportunties? What about emerging vs. developed regions? Should we invest in currencies? How much do currency effects impact returns on stocks and indexes? Get insight into these and related points at this AAII event. And why not bring a friend or family member to introduce them to AAII's eductational benefits?
